The three theoretical perspectives are what I found interesting this week. Especially, with regard to factors of divorce in the U.S, Henslin explains that people are getting a divorce because of the change of the meaning of marriage and divorce in the view of the symbolic interactionism, the change of the functions of the family members based on the functional analysis, and the change of the relationship between man’s and woman’s power by the conflict theory (32-39). As we know, there are many reasons for divorce today. According to Today, Couples get divorced because of infidelity, money problems, addictions, extraordinary situations such as deaths of children or health problems, incompatibility, and irreconcilable differences (Gandhi). However, those reasons are problems which people had also in the past. Basically, what makes getting a divorce easier is the change of the value of divorce, the function, and women’s status.
